It’s a showcase of technology art, where the cutting-edge arts, films, music, and performances are gathered, blended, exploded, and sent out to the world. MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO. Let’s change Tokyo with arts, before Tokyo will be left behind.

about MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO 2014
It was February in 2013 when 1st MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO(MAT) was held in Roppongi Hills. The event pulled in about 14,000 visitors in four days. The 2nd MAT 2014 expanded the size with two venues of Roppongi Hills 52F observation deck and INTERSECT BY LEXUS in Aoyama, will be held from February 7th(Fri)~March 30th(Sun), 2014. As much as 18 artworks by 16 artists will be exhibited in all venues for almost 2 months period. At the exhibition, new technology art which synchronized with the scenery and the passage of time, and installations will be showed, which can’t be experienced in ordinal galleries. At the lives, it hijacked the entire observation deck at night. Live performance artists from different genre will be blended with night gallery through technology arts, projected images and music. It will create a new social opportunity which go beyond the genre border, encouraging creators, creative press, and gallerists, who have less contacts with the technology culture, to participate in this event. It sends Japan-triggered technology culture from Tokyo to the world.

INTERSECT BY LEXUS(Aoyama venue Exhibition)
Installation by two artists will be exhibited in INTERSECT BY LEXUS in Aoyama venue. In February, Kosei Komatsu who expresses poetic space art using device that controls natural phenomenon, releases a new work. In March, Hiroyuki Moriwaki, a leading expert on lighting art will exhibit his lighting installation. Each artist’s talk session will be held during the term.

MAT Special exhibition (Roppongi Venue Exhibition)
It’s WOW’s artwork, “Ophelia has a Dream“ motif of Ophelia, British painting in 19th century, which put photos shot by Paolo Roversi on the moving picture installation. The artwork , exhibited in Musée du Louvre in 2011 as collaboration with MIHARAYASUHIRO. This artwork will be exceptionally exhibited in MAT main venue for a limited time only from Feb.10th~ 25th.

What MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO is aiming for:
In February, Tokyo has begun drawing attention worldwide by holding many kinds of media arts and picture images related events centering around Japan Media Arts Festival. MAT is an alternative event to gather the power of the artists and its supporters in order to accelerate and expand this tendency. It creates new culture stream beyond the flame of genre or category. It sends Japan’s next vision to the world, where technology and art are mutual –beneficial, staged in the city.It promotes the shift and resonance of Japan contents’ export strategy to the overseas market, and aims to increase the demand of inbound market which is unawaken yet.

What’s Japan Media Arts Festival?
The Japan Media Arts Festival is a comprehensive festival of Media Arts (=Media Geijutsu) that honors outstanding works in the four divisions of Art, Entertainment, Animation, and Manga, as well as providing a platform for appreciation of the works that have won awards.
This year’s Japan Media Arts Festival received 4,347 entries from 84 countries and regions in the four divisions of Art, Entertainment, Animation and Manga. The Exhibition of Award-winning Works will present Award-winning works and Jury Selections as well as information on the winners of Special Achievement Awards. The festival program will also include film screenings and various other events. The 17th Japan Media Arts Festival will be held from Wednesday February 5 to Sunday February 16, 2014 at the National Art Center, Tokyo and other venues.
