KENPOKU Art Hack Day

r6
Japan’s 1st Hack Day, International Art Festival Team Selection

‘How can we further expand the diversity of artistic expression?’

Lately, classic definitions of Fine Art, Media Art, Communal Art have been invalidated and have bridged over with Digital Fabrication and Biotechnology--fields often termed as Advanced Technology--creating countless innovative expressions.
The Kenpoku International Art Festival (Tentative), scheduled for 2016 in Ibaraki Prefecture, aims to provide a stage for artistic expressions unframed by genre. For the first time in Japan, teams selected through Hack Day will be appointed as official artists at the Festival.

JTQ’s Junji Tanigawa, as the creative director of Kenpoku Art Festival, will be participating in the selective process.

Why ‘Kenpoku’?
Northern Ibaraki is an area blessed with nature’s beauty, both oceanic and mountaineous. Known as the birthplace of modern mining, it was also where Japanese Modern Art’s person of merit, Okakura Tenshin, relocated later in his life.

The Festival, through the collaborations of artists, engineers, researchers, designers, traditional craftsmen, entrepreneurs and locals, will be showcasing the infinite possibility of artistic expression.
